Welcome to a journey celebrating Fanm Saj, a Black women-led for impact organization dedicated to nurturing healing and justice within our communities. Today, we share our story, our mission, and our vision for a world where every family can thrive.
OUR FOUNDATION
The Roots of Fanm Saj
Founded in Miami in 2018, Fanm Saj emerged from a profound need for restorative justice and healing within Black communities and social justice movements. We are a Black women-led grassroots for impact organization deeply rooted in the practices of Restorative Justice and Healing Justice.
Our name, "Fanm Saj," is a deliberate homage to the revered Haitian midwives who historically not only guide mothers towards birthing children but also guide families through holistic healing within their communities. Their legacy inspires our commitment to nurturing well-being and collective flourishing.
OUR PURPOSE
Mission & Vision
Our Mission
To provide families of the African diaspora with cultural, spiritual, wellness, social, and political tools to nourish themselves and their communities. We believe in empowering individuals with the resources to foster resilience and growth.
Our Vision
A world where families of all ages and abilities can live in safe, spiritually, mentally, and physically healthy communities. We envision a future of holistic well-being and healing justice for all.
OUR APPROACH
What Makes Us Unique
Restorative Justice Pioneers
We have introduced Restorative Justice Circles to over 5,000 individuals across Miami-Dade, the U.S. South, and nationally, fostering dialogue and reconciliation.
Community-Centered
We intentionally center Black women, youth, and families who are most impacted by systemic oppression, ensuring their voices and needs guide our work.
Ancestral Wisdom
Our theory of change blends Ella Baker’s collective leadership model with African and Indigenous practices like Ifa/Orisa traditions, Vodou, ritual, and circle keeping for self-determined holistic healing and community accountability.
